He took out the ecm and all associated wiring. Installed a new HEI. He hooked one new wire up wrong and it wouldn't run. What you're doing is bypassing the electronic stepper motor on the carb so the engine will run okay without the electronics. I used to take a machete and whack off the pigtails from the back of the computer, drill out the idle tubes and then throw a rod.

If your orange wire comes out of connector as green with black stripe, it is possible someone replaced the original wire. Howell TBI. Comment Post Cancel. There is a plain green wire as well as the green wire with a black stripe. The one I mentioned with the black stripe is in the same corner of the connector plug as the orange wire coming out of the ignition module to the mating plug.
I just wanted to make sure that was the correct wire. I have had the Jeep for 12 years and I am the second owner. I think it is all original wiring because the original owner did not do any modifications. The colors don't match I forgot that the early YJ's had a carb too! Best bet would be to manually trace the wire, or verify it with a Haynes Manual or something.
