User Info: Knightowl Knightowl posted The reason Saints Row the Third wound up the way it did is the fact that when working with a new game engine it takes time for the developers to figure out its limitations and that takes away time from game development, this is why Saints Row 2 was better than the original since with 2 they knew the ins and outs of the engine they used for Saints Row, and this also means that Saints Row 4 will be better than this one in expansiveness since they will now be familiar enough with the new engine to push the boundaries.

Naturally the unfamiliar nature of the game engine is one of the main reasons they had to sacrifice a more expansive farewell to Johnny Gat since it was technically window dressing and not as relevant to the main story, if they had tried to include it they would have been not only late getting it out the door, but over budget and the game would have ended up having numerous glitches.

Ironically if they had used the old Saints Row 2 engine the city would have been smaller but we probably would have had a massive send off for Johnny Gat. Wrong topic?
